Mayakoba Engagement Photos |

The beautiful afternoon at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba will make this engagement session that this couple will remember for years to come. Obviously, because the Mayakoba resorts are among the top resorts in world, including the three separate properties just north of Playa del Carmen. The proposal occurred the night before, after Ismael and Diana flew in for a quick vacation. It was quick, because Ismael works in Perth, Australia and Diana is doing her medical residency in Houston. With lives and locations like these, love and vacations can be challenging. However, you would not notice there being any challenge after being around this lovely Ecuadorian couple for a few hours.

Chance and fate can be beautiful things. Diana’s family had emigrated to the U.S. a few years ago, but she had returned to Quito to visit family and do some medical volunteer work. The week before she returned to the U.S. she met Ismael, beginning the lovely story of love and courtship, albeit from afar.

As we hear from so many couples, “We are uncomfortable having our photos taken and we are not very good at posing.” But, when two people are in love, there is no posing, only placement, finding the right setting, the right light and let the couple’s relationship comes through in the photographs.

Since the afternoon was a bit breezy, we found some of the more natural spots away from the beach to begin and absolutely loved the flowering trees and reflecting pond at the entrance to the resort.  The light was fading, but the capable staff got us in a cart and whisked us to the wind-swept beach for a few more photos. We actually had nearly five foot seas rolling in that afternoon.

The light was done, but Jennifer was not. She had spotted a traditional Hacienda-style door, where we wrapped our session in time for the newly engaged couple to make it the the Cirque du Soleil show, “Joya”.

It was our pleasure to capture these photos and hope to see the couple walking down the aisle someday!
